Living the High Horsepower Dream

By Bill and Val Rossmann

My adventure began in June of 1984 when I purchased my first car, a 1968 Ford Mustang Coupe. I drove that car for 2 years and then it sat in my father's garage until 2006 when my wife, Val, and I decided to restore the car. The owner of the restoration shop, a Mustang enthusiast himself, turned into a lifelong friend. We have traveled to many cities across the US with him for Mustang Club of America shows. This car has MCA medallion and is a Pinnacle Award recipient.

Our travels introduced us to the dream of someday owning a Shelby. In 2010, the dream came true when we purchased a 2008 GT500KR that had never been titled. This original Black on Black KR has now been throughout the country and is close to earning its medallion.

At a SAAC show in Watkins Glen during 2011, we saw two beautiful Sunbeam Tigers. Val decided then that she wanted one.

In 2019, we participated in our first Team Shelby event, which came to Pittsburgh Race Complex. At that event, we purchased a newly authenticated 1966 Sunbeam Tiger. In 2020, during COVID, it traveled to Mt Joy, PA, for an extensive restoration. All original parts are in storage…BUT now it is painted Ford Race Red, has a 347 Stroker (435 HP), TKO 600 5-speed, and QA1 Coil-Over Adjustable Shocks. This car is so much fun to drive and take to shows. People either don't know what it is, or they are so excited to see it because a relative or neighbor had one in the 60'. Talking to people gives us chance to educate them about Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles involvement with the car.

In addition to these two Shelbys, we own a 2021 GT500 (slated to become a KR wide body), a 2017 GT350R, that I track whenever possible, and pictured is a 2016 GT350 - Signature Edition #3. Sticking with the Ford family, we also have a 1931 Model A Deluxe Roadster.

Owning these Shelbys has provided many opportunities to travel and meet so many interesting and amazing people in the Team Shelby community. Team Shelby events have taken us across the country and this year to Le Mans and Goodwood Classic. Always an unforgettable amazing time that also supports the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
