Carroll Shelby enjoyed a long history with performance trucks and SUV’s. He experimented and built many, many models over the years while working with various automakers.
Shelbyhot roded and played with the Ford Bronco on his West Texas ranch during the 1960s, pioneered the mid-size performance pickups in the 190s and created the muscle trucks in the early 2000s. His company built a small line of high-performance full-size SUVs in the late 1990s and even unveiled a concept Shelby Expedition in 2004.
In 2009, Shelby’s team once again shook up the auto industry when it began working on a line of Ford F-150 based performance vehicles. Thanks to a relationship with Tuscany Motor Company of Indiana, a majority of Shelby badged vehicles today are truck based.
In 2021, executives with Shelby American, unveiled the Shelby F-250 Super Baja, a truck built to make every mile, both work and fun, feel like an adventure.
“The astounding capabilities of the Ford Shelby F-150 truck led to requests for a three-quarter ton truck that delivered maximum towing capacity and serious off-road capabilities,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American. “We leveraged expertise gained from our Shelby Raptor and Shelby F-150 programs to create the Shelby F-250 Super Baja pickup.”
The limited edition super truck was a huge hit. Late 2023, Shelby introduced its next generation version of the fabulous Ford F-250.
“The Ford Shelby F-250 Super Baja has been one of the most popular vehicles in the Shelby lineup since we introduced it in 2021,” added Patterson. “Lessons learned through brutal testing both on and off road resulted in a dual-purpose vehicle that can conquer jobs requiring maximum towing capacity and then deliver serious off-road adventure. The 2023 Shelby F-250 Super Baja has the capabilities expected of a pickup wearing our legendary brand.”
The 2023 Shelby F-250 Super Baja blends monstrous torque from a turbodiesel V8 and a long list of off-road-oriented modifications. It's equally at home in the desert and on a construction site.
Combining Ford’s impressive 6.7-liter Power Stroke® turbo diesel with a Shelby tuned advanced off-road suspension system, the three-quarter ton pickup has off-road capabilities, advanced technology and superior handling with best-in-class towing. Only 300 of the limited-edition vehicles will be available through select dealers in the United States.
The Shelby F-250 Super Baja is based on the world-class truck proudly assembled at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, and Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake. Every Super Duty features a Ford-designed and built 10-speed TorqShift® automatic transmission. The Ford Super Duty was the first pickup in the United States with embedded 5G Wi-Fi capability to deliver faster navigation, mapping and music downloads with higher quality.
“The Shelby F-250 Super Baja is a ‘bad to the bone’ three quarter ton truck that fluidly moves over hard-core off-road terrain, tows up to 22,000 pounds and offers a smooth ride across the pavement,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations and Chief Designer. “We reviewed every key component on the fantastic Ford F-250 and then tuned the elements that our customers required. The new suspension is cutting edge, the power is prodigious, and the styling is pure Shelby. This is truly the ultimate heavy-duty truck.”
The amazing suspension on the Shelby F-250 Super Baja is engineered to handle a wide variety of terrain, from hard core off-roading to performance street driving. The Shelby team carefully developed their version of the four-wheel drive vehicle. The Shelby F-250 Super Baja wears 20-inch alloy wheels bearing BFG KM3 37-inch tires, with a pair of spares mounted on a steel chase rack in the bed.
It doesn't take a well-trained eye to tell the stylish Shelby Super Baja apart from a standard F-250. The Shelby has a functional Air Induction Hood with extraction vent, powder coated steel front and rear bumpers, tow points, air flow vents and LED lighting. Features include a new front grille, painted fender flares, XL power steps with rock sliders and lights, bed liner, tinted windows and powder coated exhaust tips.
